Abstract

Recently, the interest of literary critics in the study of color painting in the work of poets and writers has increased, the analysis of whose works allows us to reveal the semantics of color, the state and inner world of heroes. Color painting is an integral element of A.P. Chekhov, therefore, the study of the coloring of the writer's prose is an urgent problem. The article is devoted to the poetics of color designations in A.P. Chekhov "The Black Monk". The colors that form the main coloristic background of the story are highlighted. Black, white, red colors show the complex inner experiences and state of mind of the main characters of the hero, convey their rich emotional world and at the same time create grounds for ambiguous interpretation of their images and the meaning of the story as a whole. The article proposes a comparative analysis of the canonical meanings of basic colors and their functions in Chekhov's text. It is shown what role the combination of basic colors plays in the meaning formation of the story. On the example of the analysis of portrait characteristics and landscape fragments, the techniques that form the ambiguity of color semantics are highlighted. In conclusion, it is emphasized that thanks to the color painting in the story, there is scope for the associative work of the reader's imagination, a metaphorical connection is formed between its characters and the author's position is expressed.

PHILOLOGICAL STUDIES. LITERATURE OF THE PEOPLES OF THE WORLD

Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of the image of mother in the modern Chinese female poetry as the most stable cultural image, which allows to trace the changes concerning the traditional perception of the role and function of the woman against the background of social and political transformation of the Chinese society, and also to define some essential characteristics of the phenomenon of female poetry, which appeared among other art movements and schools in the modern Chinese poetry. Under the policy of "reform and opening", Chinese literature makes a transition from a unipolar artistic paradigm to a multipolar one, the coexistence of very different styles, aesthetic attitudes, and opinions on poetic language becomes possible. The image of mother in the works of modern poets Li Xiaoyu, Zhai Yongming, Fu Tianlin, Yin Lichuan, Shu Ting, who represent different generations, is expressed as mother-parent, real-life, sublime-generalizing. Almost all the poets move from the mundane image of their mother to a generalised image, connected with the notion of ancestor and homeland.

The results of the study fill in the overall picture of the history of contemporary Chinese poetry, describe the aesthetic attitudes and foundations of women's poetry, and contribute to an objective perception of the spiritual transformations of Chinese society in the transitional period.

PHILOLOGY. LANGUAGES OF PEOPLES OF FOREIGN COUNTRIES

Abstract

The article describes characteristics of semantic and syntagmatic features of separable words liheci in modern Chinese, which, in the framework of our semantic classification, constitute a group of separable words with high idiomatic meaning. The high idiomaticity of a unit implies the impossibility of deriving its semantics from the sum of the values of the components. The

article consistently examines examples of the functioning of the inserted elements between the components of the verb-nominal construction of separable words liheci. A corpus-based analysis of language material shows such inserts before the nominal component of separable words liheci as numerals, measure words, counting complexes, units with quantitative semantics, pronouns, noun phrases, etc. As demonstrated by the examples reviewed, the inserted elements don’t establish true attributive relations with the nominal component, in the preposition to which they are located, which is due to the high semantic unity of the components of the separable words liheci with high idiomatic meaning. Counting complexes and pronouns before the nominal component don’t have function of its actualization. For example, noun measure words act as equivalents of verbal measure words, referring to the situation.

Abstract

The article examines the role of lockdown periods in changing the linguistic landscape of France, especially in the field of outdoor advertising. The subject of the analysis is the influence of extralinguistic factors on the ergonyms of Paris. The authors came to the conclusion that the unique situation during the pandemic made it possible to look at the processes of formation of the linguistic landscape from a different angle due to the change and rearrangement of priorities, due to the need to meet security requirements, as well as the interests of economic policy. The authors draw attention to the combination of extralinguistic and linguistic factors, to the inevitability of global changes in the ergonomics of cities due to the need to take into account some factors previously ignored, and, probably, to the identified opportunity not only to analyze, but also to predict the stages of development of the linguistic landscape under the influence of cataclysms and force majeure circumstances. The material provided by the authors may be of a particular interest for those learning the English language as well as to a wide range of researchers of the linguistic landscape worldwide.

Abstract

The paper examined randomly selected sentences from the novel “Princess Bari” on the basis of available research, also compared and analyzed the original language and the translation language as a kind of translation transformation in the theory of comparative stylistics. In addition, this work can be considered the first study devoted to the previously unaffected comparison of syntactic transformation of the Korean and Russian languages. This study is of a formal nature and is aimed at comparing phrases. The relevance of the work is to present the main provisions of the study on the relationship between translation transformation and translation competence in general, so that the functions of translation transformation can contribute to a deeper understanding of the functions of grammatical categories. The comparison of the syntactic transformation of Korean and Russian phrases also deserves comparative linguistic research. This article includes: firstly, an analysis of previous studies of syntactic transformation; secondly, a comparison of the specifics of syntactic phrases in the Russian and Korean languages; thirdly, a discussion of the features of the syntactic transformation of the original text of the modern Korean work “Princess Bari” and its translation into Russian. Further in the work follows the analysis of the study and its results. In the end of the article, the relevant conclusions are drawn.

Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of lexical units denoting emotions and mental states used in the coverage of socio-political events in German-language online media. The sources were information messages Deutsche Welle (until 2022), SPIEGEL, Das Erste, Tagesschau, Mor- genpost, Learngerman. The material was 24 lexical units: 18 nouns, 1 adjective, 4 participles, 1 verb. The study analyzed proposals in German with lexical units Schock (‘shock’), Entsetzen (‘horror’, ‘harsh rejection’), Sorge (‘concern ’), Besturzung (‘embarrassment’, ‘confusion’, ‘numbness’, ‘shock’, ‘confusion’), Schande (‘shame’), Besorgnis (‘concern’, ‘fear’), Verachtung (‘contempt’, ‘neglect’), Skepsis (‘doubt’, ‘skepticism’), Erleichterung (‘relief’), Zuruckhaltung (‘restraint’), Emporung (‘resentment’, ‘outrage ’), Unsicherheit (‘uncertainty’), Schreck, Schrecken (‘horror ’), Wut (‘anger’, ‘rage’, ‘anger’), Trauer (‘sadness’), Angst (‘fear’), Hilflosigkeit (‘helplessness’), Schuldgefuhl (‘guilt’), emport (‘outraged’, ‘indignant’), abstofiend (‘disgusting’, ‘repulsive’), schrecklich (‘terrible’), besorgt (‘disturbed’), schockiert (‘shocked’), bedauern (‘regret’). Only one lexical unit has a positive connotation - Erleichterung (relief), All other express negative emotions and mental states of high intensity. The analysis confirmed the assumption that the vocabulary denoting emotions and mental states is used primarily in reports of sad, tragic events. The purpose of using such lexical units is to enhance the effect produced on the recipient. In the future, the studies carried out can be supplemented with a comparative study of lexical units denoting emotions and mental states in modern news reports and information materials of the second half of the 20th century, in order to identify similarities and differences.

Abstract

In this article, from the point of view of gender and pragmalinguistics, a comprehensive lingua-statistic analysis of Japanese online communication is carried out. The research problem is updated by the continuous development of both global online communication and Japanese online communication, as well as existing manifestations of gender identity in it. The main goal of the study is to identify addresses-syntones in Japanese online communication and their gender stratification. Through the use of the continuous sampling method, the statistical data of the study were collected from various social networks and video hosting sites of the Japanese Internet space. Using the lingua-statistic method, the data were divided into several groups, reflecting the main patterns of using addresses in online communication: the absence of an address in the message; the presence of an address in the message; hyperlink as an address. Subsequently, from the group “The presence of an address in the message”, according to the gender of the addressers, the statistical data were distributed into several subgroups: men, women and anonymous. In order to identify their deepest components, descriptive, communicative-pragmatic and structural-noematic methods were also used. As a result of the study, it was revealed that addresses-syntones in Japanese online communication are a fairly low-frequency component of communication that creates a favorable environment for interaction. They reflect the gender component of Japanese speech, which is manifested in the preference for certain forms of address, as well as in the variety of these forms depending on the gender of addressers and addressees.

Abstract

The wide spread of speech acts theory observed in linguistics of the second half of the XX century allowed to reveal the communicative and pragmatic essence of communicative phenomena. The multidimensional nature of research approaches applied to the analysis of communicants' speech acts led to a deep understanding of the nature of expressive speech acts. The present study systematizes the main milestones of expressions interpretation, their social characteristics, intentionality on the example of the speech act of apology. The purpose of this work is to establish the nature of the interaction of the communicative intentions of the speaker and the listener in the speech act of apology, to clarify the communicative strategies and techniques used to achieve a favorable outcome, to analyze ways of getting optimal combined linguocreative approach with etiquette speech pattern techniques. The material of the study was the theoretical provisions and principles put forward in the works of J. Serl, J. Austin, Y. Habermas, T. Ballmer and V. Brennenstul, G.G. Pocheptsov, Y.D. Apresyan, V.V. Bogdanov, M.Ya. Glovinskaya, A.G. Pospelova, N.I. Formanovskaya et al. In the process of analyzing scientific concepts, methods of description, generalization, formalization, analysis, synthesis were used. The paper emphasizes that expressives, unlike other speech acts, are associated with the expression of the emotional and expressive state of the speaker. It is revealed that the speech act of apology has polyintensionality, is etiquette-oriented, is focused on compliance with social norms and rituals, assumes subordination to the social institution of the listener. The realization of the speech act of apology implies politeness, respect for the partner, consideration of his interests. Among the factors determining the nature of interaction in the speech act of apology, consideration of the social affiliation of the communicants, the discursive context, and the sincerity of the speaker's intentions are mentioned.

Abstract

This article is devoted to the study of tribalism, which manifests itself in the speech of political actors. Typical communicative acts are considered here, which are realized in the speeches of Cameroonian politicians, who use the strategy of discrediting the opponent to represent group isolation, which is characterized by internal clan isolation and exclusivity.

To carry out linguistic analysis, linguo-cognitive and semantic research methods were used, with the help of which the ways that ideology and tribal power are constantly used both in everyday conversational discourse and in political communication, as well as in the media, were identified. This gives the possibility to consider the communicative portrait of the Cameroonian politician. The study founds that speakers often do not realize that the words they use really influence and affect the thoughts, actions, morale and emotional state and feelings of the listener, and hence his behavior. It was investigated and observed how the principle of cooperation is implemented, how often it is ignored, whether politicians neglect the rules and ethics of maintaining good social relations, which is manifested in the language of an ethno-cultural community. The study establishes that tribalism manifests itself in verbal aggression, has devastating consequences as well as being part of the impact at the linguistic level on individuals and on the nation as a whole. It is concluded that much depends on the difficult language situation that has developed in Cameroon, when some leaders speak English, others speak French, and there are no politicians who speak their native language at all.

Abstract

The article reflects the results of a psycholinguistic study of the perception of prosodic timbre based on the material of spontaneous children's speech. The problem of describing of the timbre is not sufficiently developed: on the one hand, there is no single interpretation of the concept of «timbre», on the other hand, the question of relating the timbre to the components of intonation still remains unresolved. It is obvious that timbre is a means of conveying the emotive meanings of an utterance, and its perception is based on emotional and evaluative sensations. The article deals with the prosodic timbre, which, unlike the speaker's voice quality, is not a constitutive means. The study was conducted on the material of spontaneous speech of preschoolers in a game. An analysis of the peculiarities of the perception of timbre by «naive» native Russian speakers and phonetic experts showed that the palette of timbres provided to the auditors before the start of the experiment and including only «light» characteristics facilitates the classification of fragments but does not fully reflect the features of speech sounding. The article also compares the results obtained from phonetic experts on the characteristics of the prosodic timbre with the theory of vowel timbres by E.N. Vinarskaya.

Abstract

The article summarizes a brief description of linguistic tools applied by localization agencies and professional translators: cloud services, evaluation metrics, terminology management, standalone Quality Assurance tools or integrated into Translation Memory databases and Computer Assisted/AidedTranslation tools. The functions and features of QA-tools reviewed in the paper imply accurate analysis of the particular context and active involvement of the translator while verifying the quality of a translation. Automated quality assessment tools prove useful eliminating formal (formatting) mistakes considerably reducing the time required for the monotonous repetitive process of proofreading and correction. Automated QA-methods are the main research topic of computational linguistics and language technologies (or natural language processing) along with language modelling, machine translation, natural language understanding and generation, automatic text summarization and data retrieval. The subject, methods, goals and approaches of Computational Linguistics as an interdisciplinary field of Digital Humanities are a matter of contoversy and considerable interest, thus encouraging further discussion on the topic.
