Abstract
The purpose of the article is to reveal the lexical features of modern English interdisciplinary sports discourse. The study was carried out on the basis of three scientific texts: a textbook on sports mathematics and sports analytics, a collective monograph on sports law and a sports medicine encyclopedia, the total number of word uses is 470,933. The relevance of the study is due to the stable scientific and social interest in various aspects of sports and the actual linguistic interest in the lexical content of texts devoted to the problems of this subject area. At the moment, the specifics of interdisciplinary sports texts are not sufficiently covered in linguistics and their status has not been investigated. The importance of describing the goals, subject and participants of communication, and analyzing the functioning language means is emphasized. The main research methods were those of semantic and contextual analysis and the descriptive method. The interaction of sports discourse with mathematical, medical and legal discourses is described. Terminological units are presented as key semantic lexemes. General scientific terms, terms of concrete fields (mathematical, medical, legal) and sports terms are distinguished. Examples are given from the texts under study, illustrating the functioning of lexical units used to convey concepts that are significant from the point of view of the information and communicative functions of the texts.
